Al Mowafaqa Institute is a place of training, reflection, and the promotion of ecumenical, interreligious, and intercultural dialogue. Its courses are taught by visiting professors from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, as well as by Moroccan scholars, particularly in the field of Islamic studies.
The institute is supported by the Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church in Morocco. With more than 10 years of training, over 400 students from more than 30 nationalities, and nearly 100 instructors from Africa, Europe, and the Americas, the Institute has become a major regional hub of academic and cultural exchange.
Vision: The Catholic and Protestant Churches of Morocco are marked by great diversity, and welcome a majority of young people from sub-Saharan Africa. In response to this diversity, the Al Mowafaqa Institute was founded to provide theological and interreligious education that fosters dialogue and mutual understanding.
Located in Rabat, a crossroads of cultures and religions, the Institute seeks to move beyond fear and identity tensions, engendering religious faith that is open to others, rooted in tradition, and dialogical in nature. It works to build trust among believers and promotes active interreligious cooperation for peace and justice.
Research Center: The Center for Research on Intercultural, Interdenominational, and Interreligious Dialogue (CRD3I) aims to build bridges between cultures, religions, and denominations. In response to extremism that undermines peaceful coexistence, it contributes to human development and flourishing. The Center is led by an interdisciplinary team and supported by the Master’s program (Master en Religion, Société et Dynamiques Transnationales). Two groups are currently active within this program:
Church Practices, Religions, and Societies – A practical theological approach supported by the human and social sciences, fostering innovation in ecclesial practices in response to contemporary changes.
Islam and Christian–Muslim Dialogue – Exploring pathways toward a rooted, respectful, and irenic interreligious dialogue.
Cultural Hub
The Cultural Hub is Al Mowafaqa’s flagship project, organizing events that are open to all faiths and cultures. Its program includes:
The Hub addresses religion and contemporary societal challenges in a spirit of dialogue and openness. Through it, the Institute reaffirms its role as an intercultural and interreligious crossroads.
