The Contextual Dictionary of Christian-Muslim Relations

The Contextual Dictionary of Christian-Muslim Relations includes a concise but central list of terms in Christian-Muslim relations. It showcases the social, historial, and cultural nuances behind each term through the lived experiences of its writers from diverse regions of Africa, Asia, and the MENA region. By focusing specifically on the insights, perspectives, and case studies from these regions, this dictionary will provide readers with a rich, context specific and grounded understanding of the realities of Christian-Muslim relations.

The NCCMR dictionary aims to bridge the gap between materials separated from the lived experiences of its subjects, offering a more contextualized, regionally-attuned exploration of Christian-Muslim vocabulary that will provide readers with an understanding of the concept and its subject matter in real life.

Our hope is that this dictionary becomes a groundbreaking example of a new genre of dictionaries; a unique resource distinguished by the diverse perspectives of its contributors. By having the practitioners of Christian-Muslim relations compose the definitions themselves, we wish to avoid any forms of cultural hegemony or epistemic dominance. Our dictionary features the voices and insights of theologians, philosophers, practitioners, and thinkers from the Majority World where Christians and Muslims live together.

By centering the knowledge and experiences of intellectuals from the Majority World, this dictionary will offer a refreshingly different lens and a deeper understanding of the complex history, theology, and social dynamics of the meeting points between Christianity and Islam.
