Diploma in Christian-Muslim Relations

With our host partners at Domuni Universitas, the NCCMR has launched the online ‘Diploma in Christian-Muslim Relations’. The program is taught in the English Language over a period of 12-months; it provides the student with the essential knowledge relating to CMR, and enables them to explore the dynamics and complex relations governing Christian-Muslim relations. The Diploma requires no previous training, and it is highly recommended for students and professionals who look to acquire reliable knowledge in the domain.

NCCMR Annual Symposium Opens in Cairo with High-Level Religious and Academic Participation Cairo, Egypt – July 6, 2026 The Network of Centers for Christian–Muslim Relations (NCCMR) officially opened its Annual Symposium this morning in Cairo under the theme, “The Future of Christian–Muslim Relations: Prospects and Challenges.” The two-day gathering brings together leading religious leaders, scholars, and practitioners from more than fifteen countries to explore the future of Christian–Muslim engagement through academic dialogue, peacebuilding, and international collaboration. The opening session began with welcoming remarks by Dr. Wageeh Mikhail, Director of NCCMR, who emphasized the Network’s commitment to advancing rigorous scholarship, meaningful dialogue, and practical cooperation among Christian and Muslim communities across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. He highlighted the growing role of NCCMR as a platform for connecting research centers and practitioners dedicated to fostering mutual understanding and promoting peace. The official opening featured distinguished addresses from senior representatives of Egypt’s leading Christian and Islamic institutions, including: * The Most Reverend Dr. Samy Fawzy Shehata, Archbishop of Alexandria and Diocesan Bishop of Egypt, Episcopal/Anglican Province of Alexandria. * His Grace Bishop Armia, Head of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center. * Dr. Andrea Zaki, President of the Protestant Churches of Egypt and President of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services. * Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Mamdouh Saad, Member of the Supreme Advisory Board to the Grand Mufti of Egypt, representing His Eminence Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayyad, Grand Mufti of Egypt. * Sheikh Dr. Mahmoud Al-Hawary, Assistant Secretary-General for Daʿwah and Religious Media at Al-Azhar Islamic Research Academy, who delivered remarks on behalf of His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, through Sheikh Dr. Mohamed El-Gendy, Secretary-General of the Academy. * Sheikh Dr. El-Sayed Hussein Abdel Bari, Head of the Religious Affairs Sector at Egypt’s Ministry of Awqaf, representing His Excellency Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Awqaf. In their remarks, the speakers underscored the importance of strengthening dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation among religious institutions in addressing contemporary challenges and promoting peaceful coexistence. They also affirmed the vital role of academic research and sustained engagement in building trust between Christian and Muslim communities and commended NCCMR for its contribution to advancing these shared objectives. The opening session was moderated by Dr. Al-Shaimaa El-Demerdash, Director of the Heritage Books Project at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The symposium continues over two days with keynote lectures, panel discussions, and regional conversations addressing the history of Christian–Muslim relations, dialogue and peacebuilding, inter- and intrafaith solidarity, and future prospects for Christian–Muslim relations in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Through these conversations, participants seek to strengthen international partnerships and amplify scholarly and practical contributions emerging from the Global South. #NCCMR #Symposium2026

Earlier today, NCCMR Director, Dr. Wageeh Mikhail met with Dr. Mohamed El-Gendy, Secretary-General of the Al-Azhar Islamic Research Academy, and Sheikh Mahmoud Al-Hawwary to discuss the work of the Network of Centers for Christian–Muslim Relations (NCCMR), future collaborative initiatives, and final preparations for the NCCMR Annual Symposium 2026. The meeting reflected a shared commitment to advancing Christian–Muslim relations through scholarship, dialogue, and constructive partnership. #NCCMR

On 27 April, CCMUP, a valued NCCMR member center, welcomed theology students from Lund University and interns from CAWU for a day of dialogue, learning, and cultural exchange in Cairo. Participants explored Christianity in Egypt, Coptic Orthodoxy, and contemporary readings of the Qur’an through expert presentations. The program concluded with a Nile boat trip, offering an informal setting for deeper conversations and new friendships. #NCCMR
