Centre of Christian-Muslim Understanding and Partnership (CCMUP)

The Centre of Christian-Muslim Understanding and Partnership (CCMUP) was founded in June 2022 after more than two decades of Christian-Muslim relations in the Episcopal/Anglican Diocese of Egypt. These interfaith relations started in 2002 when an interfaith dialogue agreement was signed between the Grand Imam of Al Azhar and the Archbishop of Canterbury at Lambeth Palace in London. The Episcopal/Anglican Diocese of Egypt played a key role in drafting this dialogue agreement.

Vision: Peace and coherence within Egyptian society and beyond.

Mission: To facilitate mutual understanding through engagement and collaboration between these faith-communities in Egypt.  This is carried out though three practices:

  • Christian-Muslim Studies.
  • Community initiatives.
  • Training of peace and reconciliation teams.

Significant Undertakings:
CCMUP organizes learning journeys where we invite Christians and Muslims to learn together about each other’s faith and practice. We invite speakers to teach about different religious topics with the goal of mutual understanding. We organize community initiatives and invite Christian and Muslim youth, women, and men to work together for the common good of the community. These initiatives include working together to protect the environment, community development, and cultural projects.

In cooperation with the Egyptian Family House (Beit el-Aila al-Masryia), CCMUP trains teams for conflict resolution and peace-building in different provinces.

Future Objectives: We are working to expand our activities to include other provinces in Egypt. As we grow, we plan to focus more initiatives among school children to help them grow in their development of inclusive citizenship.
